It's Like Whatever

It's A Different World from where you come from

Yes, all women face horrific sexism and violence. But I’m going to go out on a limb here, and say that at least white women are protected by their communities. They have feminism to fall back on, where as WoC are continually silenced.

We’re fetishized and sexualized far more than any white woman could ever be. During the Gold Rush, Chinese women were tricked into coming to America, where they were forced to become prostitutes much of the time. White “customers” abused these women, blamed them for the spread of diseases, when in fact it was much more their fault than the immigrants, and took home stories of exotic Chinese prostitutes, who could never measure up to the purity and sanctity of the white woman.

WoC are disposable. We are the choice that’s better than nothing. We are exploitable. And that’s why I say that WoC have it worse than white women. Because at least they’ve got feminism to defend them. Womanism is still budding.

Feminism has largely failed WoC. White women have always been protected, and it’s crazy what lengths the community will go to to save them. A little white girl goes missing? Candlelight vigils all over the country. Her face is on every news channel. A little black girl goes missing? Well, she was probably a hoodrat anyway. She’ll turn up.  (via starvedforjustice)
